Grounded Base Building: From Lean-To to Fortress
A strong base is the difference between surviving the night and losing hours of progress. Learn which materials to farm, how to design defensible layouts, and what structures unlock as you progress.
Material tiers and unlock progression
Grass planks and sap form tier-one structures. Mushroom bricks and stem pieces unlock tier-two builds with significantly more HP. Bug rubber and pupa hide push you into tier-three fortified walls that survive wolf spider attacks.
Analyze every new material at field stations immediately. The building menu only shows recipes for analyzed resources.
Defensive design principles
Layer walls with different materials so attackers must break through multiple barriers. Place spike strips at chokepoints where insects path toward your base. Ziplines provide escape routes from upper floors.
In co-op, assign one player to base defense while others farm. A well-designed base lets a single player hold off insect raids while teammates return with resources.
